Stolen.

Premise.
Stolen will focus on the stories of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls (MMIWG).  Tribal gatherings, or rallies, that intend to bring attention to the disproportionately large number of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls will also be highlighted as part of this project.

Goals.
Interview friends and family members of missing and murdered indigenous women to bring attention to their individual lives and stories.  Ideally this project will also create awareness of the larger issue at hand, the fact that indigenous women face a disproportionate rate of violence when compared to other demographic groups.  If you know of a missing or murdered indigenous woman and would like to share her story, or if you have insight as to why indigenous women face such a disproportionate rate of violence please contact me.

National Day of Awareness

On Saturday 05MAY2018 a group assembled at the Spokane Tribal Gathering Place to honor and remember missing and murdered indigenous women.  Idle No More - Sp'q'n'iɁ and MAC Movement teamed up to host this gathering on what has become the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.  May 5th is known as the official day of awareness in honor of Hanna Harris' birthday.  Harris, of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe, is counted among the murdered.  Possibly inspired by our northern neighbors, who have used a red dress as the symbol for Canada's missing and murdered indigenous women, the color red has become a vital piece in the effort to raise awareness for the thousands of known missing and murdered indigenous women and girls in the United States.
